Future residents of Main Street Homes can begin counting down the months until the first townhomes and flats in Storrs Center will be ready for occupancy. Construction began in July on the infrastructure work which includes grading, roadway development, and installation of underground utilities. Vertical construction of the 42-unit neighborhood will follow in September. The first residents could begin moving into their new homes as early as February 2016 and the entire neighborhood should be completed by the end of 2016.
“Part of the original vision for Storrs Center was to incorporate for-sale housing,” said Howard Kaufman, CEO of LeylandAlliance, the master developer of Storrs Center. “When the Great Recession hit we opted to concentrate on completing the walkable downtown first, including the mixed use buildings and town square, and then circle back to develop the for-sale residences. Our timing was on target. Already, over half of the 42 residences of Main Street Homes are sold. The community has warmly embraced the idea of living in this university-oriented downtown.”
