Commercial

Our commercial division strives to create great places that are also perfect settings for high quality retail, restaurants, and service providers – these are places where businesses flourish because customers and employees all enjoy the experience.  Whether working with a strong regional grocery chain to design a new neighborhood market concept for an emerging college main street; incubating a small French café within a destination retail area and watching it grow to become one of the region's hottest new restaurants; or delivering a building pad for a sophisticated national chain – Leyland's experienced and professional commercial development team, led by Jason Hess, is committed to delivering extraordinary commercial venues.  A few of our commercial success stories follow:

Twin Lakes Center, Cary, NC

Wegmans – LeylandAllliance has developed a unique mixed-use center on a 34 acre parcel in Cary, NC.  Twin Lakes Center features amenities with lake views along a pedestrian-friendly street, and is anchored by a new 103,000 SF Wegmans supermarket. Family owned and in business for over 100 years, Wegmans was ranked the #1 Supermarket in America by Consumer Reports in 2015. Wegmans is ranked #4 on Fortune Magazine’s 2016 list of the 100 Best Companies to Work For.  The supermarket has been on the list every year since 1998, and ranked #1 in 2005.

Storrs Center, Mansfield, CT

Price Chopper – One of the anchors for Storrs Center, Price Chopper opened in 2013 to great reviews and provided a walkable grocery store for this university Main Street. The Leyland team worked with this family-owned regional grocer to design an attractive neighborhood-scaled store that could meet the market demand for grocery items, fresh vegetables and produce, grab and go meals, and community-focused design that was sorely wanting in this university-oriented community.

CVS – Joining Price Chopper in Storrs Center is a mix of national, regional, and local tenants.  CVS opened its store on the Town Square of Storrs Center in 2014, providing a trusted national venue for prescriptions and health and beauty products. This handsome CVS store completed the Town Square esthetically and provides convenient and essential items for townspeople and visitors alike.

UConn Health – With the opening of satellite offices for UConn Health Medical Services, UConn Health Urgent Care, and UConn Dental Services, Storrs Center was able to incorporate essential healthcare, urgent care, and dental services into its new downtown.  Based in Farmington, Connecticut, UConn Health is a vibrant, integrated academic medical center that is a major economic driver in the region, generating nearly $1 billion annually in gross state product.

Barnes & Noble UCONN at Storrs Center – Serving the literary and cultural needs of UCONN and the surrounding communities, Barnes & Noble UCONN at Storrs Center offers a wide selection of literature and specialty gifts, as well as UCONN trademarked items for sale.  A variety of special events are featured throughout the year – many including authors – and are designed for a mix of interests and ages. The store offers a welcoming place for booklovers to relax, gather, and enjoy food and beverages from its café.

34 West, New Haven, CT

Rite Aid – Founded in Scranton, Pennsylvania in 1962, Rite Aid is now the third largest drugstore in the U.S. In 2015, Rite Aid purchased EnvisionRx, a pharmacy benefit manager. The Rite Aid at 34 West was completed in 2016 and is well-located within walking distance of Yale-New Haven Medical Center and close to downtown New Haven, CT.

The Learning Experience Academy of Early Education The Learning Experience (TLE) is positively impacting the lives of children by developing and implementing effective early education programs throughout the country. TLE is experiencing significant growth, and now has over 200 learning centers in 20 states. The TLE curriculum is designed to teach children skills that will be useful throughout their lives, from phonics to technology to effective social interaction to problem solving. The TLE at 34 West opened in September 2018.

Hammond’s Ferry, North Augusta, SC

Neighborhood Retail: Manuel’s Bread Café – Manuel’s, at our Hammond’s Ferry project, has become one of the top destination restaurants in the region.  Manuel’s attracts enthusiastic patrons during Masters week, as well as the rest of the year, due to its authentic French cuisine and the unique atmosphere fostered by its creative proprietor, Manuel Verney-Carron. The beautiful setting of Hammond’s Ferry, the region’s outstanding new community, complements everything Manuel’s strives for. Manuel’s is joined by an eclectic mix of complementary commercial uses located within the charming first phase of Hammond Ferry.

Riverside Village – Exciting things are on the way for Hammond’s Ferry. The Augusta GreenJackets, the Class A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, moved into the newly built SRP Park in 2018.  Developed by the City of North Augusta in conjunction with Greenstone Properties, the stadium is enhanced by a variety of uses, including a full service hotel, an array of new restaurants, shops, offices, and residences, in the highly anticipated Riverside Village.
